Figuring out how to sell our timeshare was not easy. It was extremely frustrating when we were playing phone tag everyday and getting the run around with certain companies. But luckily, we figured it out, found a great company to sell with, and finally got rid of our timeshare.

Our reason for selling...

My wife and I have been retired for years now. We decided to get a timeshare around the time that we had retired as a way to go south for the winter. It gets pretty cold up here and my joints start to ache during the winter months.

So we initially had a good reason for getting the timeshare, but we didn't realize how much it was going to cost us in the long run. We were expecting the upfront cost and fees. However, the fees seem to go up every year.

Not only that, but we hadn't been using the timeshare much and it didn't make sense to keep it anymore. Our son lives in Texas with his family, and we would rather spend our money to go see him a few times a year instead of using the timeshare.

How it all started...

I started off by giving the resort a call. I figured that they might know how or where I could sell the timeshare. Unfortunately, they were not much help. So I hung up the phone and called up my friend who used to be in real estate.

He wasn't much help either. But he did recommend using the Internet to find a company to sell through – so that is what I did next.

I got on the computer and pulled up the Internet. I am not a computer whiz, but I was able to find a few companies that looked like they could help us. After writing down their phone numbers, I gave them each a call. Most of these companies seemed like call-centers from overseas. The agents didn't speak English very well and needlesstosay... I didn't get any help from those companies.

The next morning, they called me and I was actually surprised with how much advice they gave me. And the person I spoke with was able to work out a deal with me too. We ended up selling with that company and everything happened fairly quick.
